2017 - Mommy Life Up North

My 2018 New Years Resolution|A Healthier New Me

I have been going back and fourth a lot lately on what I need to do to become a better new me. And I thought a lot about how I was going to write this post because I do not want to come a crossed as someone who doesn't love herself, because I do, I am just unhappy with myself. I am unhappy with how I let myself go the last couple of years. It's hard having a lot of emotional baggage and a lot of it came from losing my parents. It has been extremely tough... which I am thinking of doing a whole post on losing my parents in the near future since I have been meaning to do a post on it. So that will be up maybe the beginning of next year.

I just wanted to share a little back story on my "why". Why I want to become a healthier person, why I want to feel better about my self, etc. I haven't always been over weight. I was pretty small as a kid until I hit about 4th grade, then I chunked out a little, but once I went through puberty I slimmed down. When I was a sophomore in high school (back in the beginning of 2009) I went through major depression and I wouldn't really say I had a eating disorder, but from being depressed I wasn't eating...and I would occasionally make myself throw up. Being a teenage girl, looks were everything to me. I was at my smallest during this time (teenage age wise) and was only 119 pounds (which may not seem small, but to me it was a huge difference). I actually was admitted to the hospital for my depression.  It wasn't until back in 2010 when I got the Depo shot that I started gaining some weight. Not just a little weight, but a lot of weight.

From then my weight just kept going up. Now I am not going to share with you all my current weight, once I get to where I want to be, I will for sure share numbers with you guys. But for right now, I am going to keep it on the down low.

Anyways, lets fast forward a little to the past year. While I was pregnant with my daughter I only gained about 30 pounds and after having her I lost a lot of weight the first month. I was actually smaller then when I found out I was pregnant, which was amazing to me. But slowly as the months have gone passed, I put all that weight back on. Now here we are almost 8 months later and I am unhappy with myself. I completely let myself go. Not only with me weight, but with my appearance as well.

I want to go on this journey mainly for myself, but also for my daughter. I want to feel better about myself and to be more confident. So I have some things in mind already to help me out on this journey, so the first step is completely changing my eating habits. And then I will also be investing in a treadmill. Since I am a stay at home mom, it's important for me to be home with my daughter so having a treadmill here, she can be with me while I work out!

As for blogging goes, I really want to do like a couple posts a month about what I am eating and just my weight lost journey. I am not sure if you guys are going to be interested in reading about it, but that's ok since I am doing this for me and it will be nice for me to look back on a year from now!

I know this post is super super long, but I am just excited to do this and I am going to make 2018 my year! Let me know in the comments below what your New Year's resolution is and if you guys have any tips and tricks for me when it comes to starting a healthier life style!

MAC Patrick Starrr Collection Swatches & Overview

This post and blog contains affiliated links and ads which means I may receive a tiny portion for any click or purchase. These products were sent to me as PR from MAC Cosmetics. All opinions are 100% my own.

Hi loves, I am literally so excited for today's post. I have been going back and fourth on if I wanted to do a few different post, but I chose to just do one big overview and swatch post on the Patrick Starrr MAC Collection. I had received this through PR from MAC and I seriously cried when I opened it from excitement. I have been hearing nothing but amazing things regarding this collection and I knew I wanted to do a huge post on it. This collection comes with eyeshadow palettes, lip liners, lip glasses, lipstick and face powder. And this collection is targeted to work with all skin tones so I am super excited. Also wanted to note that this collection is currently available at MAC Cosmetics, Nordstrom and many more places that carry MAC.

So I thought to begin, I would go over the eyeshadow palettes in this collection. So there is two quads which both have a mix of beautiful neutral shades. You really can't go wrong with the shades in the quads.

The first quad is in the shade Goalgetter. This palette has the shades Soft Brown (soft golden peachy brown), Amber Lights (peachy brown with shimmer), Swiss Chocolate (muted reddish brown) and I'm Into It (dark red brown). Since I already have three of the four shades already, I am saving this palette to give to my sister since she doesn't care if I had swatched it or not. But the colors in this quad is so beautiful. However, the shade I'm Into It was a little patchy, so it is a little harder to blend out.

The next palette is in Glam AF which is my favorite. It comes with the shades Brule (soft creamy beige), OMIGAUD (soft peach pink), Saddle (golden orange brown) and Embark (intense reddish brown). I am seriously in love with this quad and I will be adding it to my everyday makeup because it is seriously stunning.

Each palette retails for $32.00.

(swatches of the Goalgetter quad)

Next we are moving onto the lip products! The first three are lipglasses. From the photos below we will go from left to right: Patrick Woo (intense blue-ish red, which I love! I am a huge fan of cool toned reds), She Betta Werrrk (light warm pink) and Mamastarrr (pink cinnamon). I seriously love all three of the glosses and they all had amazing pigmentation.

Each lipglass retails for $17.00.

Next is the lip liners! From left to right we have Mahogany (intense reddish brown), Edge to Edge (midtone dirty blue pink) and lastly Brick (intense golden red). I think they all fit perfectly with the lipsticks and lipglasses.

Each lip liner retails for $17.50.

And the last lip products are lipsticks. Which the lipsticks have the exact same name as the lipglasses. I love that he created matching glosses to match the lipsticks, so its the perfect combo. Again from left to right we have: Mamastarrr (satin finish, reddish brown), She Betta Werkkk (matte, soft pink) and lastly Patrick Woo (matte, deep yellow red). All of the shades were creamy and so pigmented. I love the red and the pretty nude shades.

Each lipstick retails for $17.50.

And the last product that is part of this collection is the Patrickstarrr Set Powder. It is a considered a colorless powder that you can use to set your makeup and also use it on your body. The powder is super fine and blends like a dream. It leaves your skin feeling so soft and does an amazing job at setting your makeup.

The setting powder retails for $34.00.

This collection is seriously amazing and I highly recommend checking out some of the products. I love all the lip products and plan on using the reds for my Christmas lips!

New MAC Grand Illusion Glossy Liquid Lipcolour's|Swatches

This post and blog contains affiliated links and ads which means I may receive a tiny portion for any click or purchase. These products were sent to me as PR from MAC Cosmetics. All opinions are 100% my own.

Whenever MAC comes out with new products, I seriously get so excited. They always come up with such cool ideas and very unique colors when it comes to lip products. They recently came out with the Grand Illusion Glossy Liquid Lipcolour's, and they are stunning. These babies are holographic and have tons of iridescent pearls. They also have a cool sensation on your lips which makes your lips feel fuller. These are so pretty and look amazing on top of many lipstick shades. For this post I only swatched each one by themselves.

MAC was kind enough to send over 7 different shades. There is a total of 14 shades in the whole entire collection ranging from many different shades like green, orange, yellow purple and pink. Instead of doing a basic review I just wanted to do a post on the swatches and up close photos of each one I have.

These do retail for $21.00 and can be bought from any places where MAC is sold including www.ulta.com. Each name is listed under each photo as well as a short description of the shade. I hope you enjoy! Let me know in the comments below with which one is your favorite.

This is in the shade Let's Rock. It is a copper orange with green and yellow iridescence.

This is in the shade Twinkle Twink. This is a coral with gold pearl.

This one is one of my favorites! This is Pearly Girl which is a cool pink with red and gold iridescence.

Next is Broken Halo which is a silver with multi-color iridescence.

This one is Queen's Violet. It is a beautiful royal purple with blue and pink iridescence.

This is also one of my favorites and its in the shade Sensory Overload. It is a blackened deep purple with shimmering iridescence.

Last shade is Pink Trip which is a bright pink with blue iridescence.

My Current Skincare Favorites|December 2017

This post and blog contains affiliated links and ads which means I may receive a tiny portion for any click or purchase. Some products were sent to me as PR. All opinions are 100% my own.

Hi loves, I was seriously thinking about doing Blogmas this year, but I didn't want to let anyone down including my self in case I couldn't make a post everyday, so instead of Blogmas, I am going to try and post at least three times a week! I am also going to try and do a few giveaways as well with the Holidays coming up. I thought I would start December off with some of my current favorite skincare items. I have been using all of these products for the last couple of weeks and will continue to use them throughout December. My skin gets so awful in the winter so I am very picky when it comes to my skincare and with my dry skin. So I thought I would just share my current favorites with ya'll. A few of these are considered more high end and a few are considered drugstore. So lets go a head and get started! I will be talking about each product from left to right.
  • Biore Baking Soda Cleansing Scrub: I use this scrub almost everyday. When I am not using this scrub, there is a different one I use which I will mention very soon. This scrub is very gentle on the skin. I love using this after I use a cleanser. It leaves my face feeling really smooth. This product retails for $9.99 and can be purchased at www.ulta.com and most drugstores.
  • DermaE Hydrating Night Cream with Hyaluronic Acid: I have been loving this moisturizer. I obviously apply it at night time. It has so many different vitamins in it and macadamia oil to really help moisturize your skin. And it also smells wonderful which is a plus. This product retails for $24.99 and can be found at www.ulta.com or www.dermae.com
  • DermaE Microdermabrasion Scrub with Dead Sea Salt: When I do not use the Biore scrub, I use this. This one is a little more harsh compared to the Biore one, so when my face is feeling extra dry and flakey I will go in with this scrub. It has an amazing fresh scent and leaves my face feeling flawless. This product retails for $29.99 and can be found at www.ulta.com or www.dermae.com
  • DermaE Hydrating Cleanser: This is my everyday face cleansers. I like to use it in the morning and at night. It is part of the same line as the night cream and using these two together seriously makes a huge difference in my skin. I love these two together. I need to pick up the day cream as well! This product retails for $15.50 and can be found at www.dermae.com
  • Glamglow Supercleanse Clearing Cream-to-Foam Cleanser: This cleanser is seriously amazing. I get little breakouts here and there and this cleanser and the face mask does such a great job at clearing my skin. It can be used on all skin types. I have the Jelly Balm cleanser too, but this one is for sure my favorite. If you get breakouts, I would highly recommend checking this out. It retails for $32.00 and can be found at www.sephora.com
  • Glamglow Supercleanse Clearing Treatment: This is my go-to face mask. I've used this mask for a couple of years now and it will forever be my favorite. If you have very sensitive skin, this may cause irritation. It will leave your face pretty red after using, but it does such an amazing job at clearing all my pores. A lot of times I will use it only on my t-zone and sometimes my cheeks which is where I get the most breakouts. It is such an incredible mask. This product retails for $69.00 and can be found at www.sephora.com.
  • REN Perfect Canvas Skin Finishing Serum: I have been using this for product now for about a month and a half. I apply it before adding my makeup. It is really cool because it goes from a serum to a primer and it helps smooth and reduce pore size. So I love to apply this all over my face just to give a little extra base to my makeup. It also helps reduce redness and dryness, which is a huge plus for me. This product retails for $55.00 and can be found at www.sephora.com
Those are all of my current skincare favorites. Some of them I have been using for a while now and some are new to me since the beginning of November. Once I find things that work with my skin, I stick with it. The only other product I use is makeup remover wipes which those are always changing, so I really don't have a favorite of those.

Let me know in the comments below what some of your favorites are for the winter. I would love to hear your recommendations.

New Limited Edition Urban Decay Distortion Eyeshadow Palette Swatches

This post contains affiliated links, which means I may receive a tiny portion for any click or purchase. This was sent to me by Urban Decay as PR.

Hey loves, it literally has been forever since I have done a post, and  I thought it would be the perfect time to do a review and swatch post on the all new Urban Decay Distortion Eyeshadow Palette. This palette is limited edition and will be sold exclusively at www.sephora.com. This is such a unique palette since it comes with 10 regular eyeshadows as well as 5 transforming eyeshadows which you can add on top of any shade to give it a duotone look. In the swatches below it is very hard to see the transformer colors, so I also added them on top of Blackout so you can really see how beautiful they are.

I included tons and tons of photos since I really wanted to show how stunning this palette is. The packaging is beautiful and changes color in the light which you can see from the very first photo, and the second photo posted. Let's go a head and go through all of the different shades:
  • Bleach- gold shift
  • Shifty- green shift
  • Space- blue shift
  • Mind Game- lavender shift
  • Blur- pink shift
  • First Offense- metallic burnt orange
  • Hot Box- deep green satin with green micro glitter
  • 5.0- metallic medium blue
  • Rogue- muted medium purple shimmer
  • Trash Talk- muted medium pink shimmer with a purple shift
  • Territorial- deep metallic bronze
  • Blackout- blackest black matte
  • Old Smoke- smoky metallic medium gray
  • Shag- metallic silver with iridescent micro sparkle
  • Velvet- metallic burgundy with gold micro sparkle
This palette is seriously so so pretty. The formula of the shadows are just as good as the rest of the Urban Decay palettes. I thought every single shade was pigmented and easy to blend. Blackout is seriously the blackest black I have in my whole entire collection. The transformer shades look incredible on top of it.

This palette also has a really good price point compared to other palettes. It comes with 15 shades and retails for $48.00. Like I said it is limited edition so if you like the look of this palette, I would snag it up quick before it sells out! It can be purchased at www.sephora.com

PR Sample|Affiliate Link

Who is excited for all the new Holiday products that have recently been released? I know I am! I am a huge sucker for all the fun packaging. I recently received the new Urban Decay Heavy Metals collection and I have been testing out the new Heavy Metals Metallic Eyeshadow Palette, let me just say, I am in love!

This palette comes with 20 beautiful metallic eyeshadows. If you love sparkle, shine and glitter you are going to want to get your hands on this palette. The packaging comes in this beautiful purple case and the eyeshadows pull out and have a mirror in the middle. I was so surprised to see a mirror in the middle of the palette because I have never seen a eyeshadow palette like that before. I find it very unique. I seriously love all the names of these shadows because I am huge into rock music and all of these shade names reminds me of going to a bunch of rock concerts. I feel like this palette was made for me.

With the shadows, Urban Decay came out with a whole new formula. It has high intense pigmentation and they are very smooth and blend really good. You don't even need any fix+ with these shadows to get the amazing metallic look. I love how creative this palette is and I highly recommend checking it out.

L'Oreal Infallible Pro Matte Liquid Lipstick Swatches & Review

PR Sample|Affiliated Links

Oh my goodness, I am so excited to share with you guys some swatches of the new L'Oreal Infallible Pro Matte Liquid Lipsticks! L'Oreal recently came out with a ton of shades and I finally got around to testing them out for you guys. These were sent to me for review purposes, but all opinions are of course, 100% my own.

These lipsticks are supposed to last up to 16 hours and are supposed to feel comfortable on the lips. There is 12 shades to this line and a lot of the colors are very unique. And these also have a very cool wand that has a pointer on it to help shape your lips when applying the product.

The shades in this line are:
  • Roseblood which is a deep brownish red
  • Stirred which is a brick red
  • Matador which is a cool toned red
  • Shake Down which is a rusty nude color
  • Cowboy which is a warm nude
  • Milk and Cookies which is a pretty taupe brown
  • Nudist which is a pretty peachy nude
  • Angora which is also a taupe shade but its just a little bit lighter then Milk and Cookies
  • Kitten Paw which is a pale pastel purple
  • Plum Bum which is a stunning plum purple (this is by far my favorite shade)
  • Petal Potion which is a beautiful cool toned pink
  • Deeply Disturbed which is a dark purple
The shades are EXTREMELY pigmented except for Deeply Disturbed. That shade wasn't as opaque as the rest of them. They also do not dry down like typical matte lipsticks. They are very comfortable on the lips and a few of the darker shades do leave a little bit of stain behind on the lips. They also do wear for a long time, but I still had to touch up a little bit throughout the day.

Some of my favorite shades from this line are Plum Bum and Petal Potion. I mean of course, sine they are the most wearable on me.

If you do not like super drying liquid lipsticks, I think you would really enjoy these. They do retail for around $10 depending on where you get them from. They are currently on sale at Ulta.com for buy one get one 50% off.

Baking With Mommy: Soft Oatmeal Butterscotch Cookies

Hi loves, I wanted to start a new series on my blog called Baking With Mommy! Whenever I am cooking I always have my little one near me. Even though she has no idea what I am doing, I am hoping when she is older she would love to bake with me. With the holidays coming up, I thought it would be a wonderful idea to start doing some baking recipes. So I thought I would start with one of my favorite cookies!

Now before I begin, just note, I am not the best baker in the world. I do not have a fancy mixer (I used to but sadly I didn't use it much). So a lot of things is all done by hand. But a mixer would be more handy then just stirring by hand, trust me!

So today I am sharing with you one of my favorite cookies! They are Soft Oatmeal Butterscotch cookies. They are seriously one of my favorite cookies. And since butterscotch is orange, I thought these cookies look pretty festive for the fall time.

Items you will need:
  • 1 cup butter softened (I just used two sticks of Blue Bonnet margarine)
  • 1 cup brown sugar (can use light or dark brown sugar, I used light)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs (I use large eggs)
  • 2 tsp of vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon (I love cinnamon so I use a lot, if you are not a fan of cinnamon you can always cut it in half)
  • 2 cups of flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 cups of quick oats
  • 1 bag of butterscotch chips (I loveeee butterscotch so I use a lot. If you don't like a lot of butterscotch in your cookies, just use less. I also highly recommend getting the Hersey's butterscotch chips. They taste so good!)

Baking Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
  • Mix butter, eggs, brown sugar, regular sugar and vanilla extract all together
  • In a separate bowl combine your flour, cinnamon, baking sofa and salt all together
  • Take the dry ingredients and add them to the wet ingredients
  • Once it is all mixed together add your oats and then fold in your butterscotch chips
  • Bake for about 10-12 minutes
Let me know if you are going to try these! And I hope you all enjoy this new little series I will be doing! If you have any feedback I would love to hear it!
